Reef Trips | Mt. Mulligan Station
Mt. Mulligan station is a large working cattle property operated nearly single-handedly by Owen Rankine. The station is located about a 2 ˝ hour drive from Cairns, over the mountains and on into the dry plains that lie beyond. The terrain is typical of what the word “outback” brings to mind; dry grassland and forests, with wide-open skies. The station has uniquely spectacular Mt Mulligan forming a fabulous backdrop on one side, a beautiful escarpment that picks up glorious colors in the sunset and sunrise.
The last 25 miles of the drive is dirt road, most of which is the driveway from the property gate to the main house. The station is a quiet peaceful place, where the limited numbers of guests are free to hike, relax, or explore the area. Guests stay in the old homestead, which was the hospital to the now abandoned town in a former life, and is furnished in a modest but comfortable bush style. Meals are plentiful hearty country cooking, and all bedding is provided. There is room for 10 guests at any one time.HA
