One-Day Great Barrier Reef Trip Aboard Quicksilver Quicksilver Dive |
|
This trip is aboard Quicksilver V, a 150 foot Catamaran with a maximum of 300 divers. It is for 1 day, and allows 3 dives.
Departure Information
Departure is from Marina Mirage, Port Douglas at 10:00 AM every day, return time 4:00 PM.
The Dive
Quicksilver has carefully designed this trip to maximize comfort. The boat used on this trip, the Quicksilver V, is the largest boat in the area, and gives a very quick and stable ride..
The company has developed an extensive floating activity platform on the outer edge of the reef at Agincourt Reef.
This large, fully outfitted platform is essentially a floating observatory center, from which a host of activities are centered.
Certified divers depart from the platform in a 30-foot tender for a 15-minute trip to several good dive locations, where they can make a dive, and then return to the platform. There is time for two dives.
Snorkelers have the option of snorkeling off the platform, taking a guided snorkel tour, taking a dive tender a bit further from the platform, or taking a guided introductory scuba dive.
The majority of the 300 reef visitors on this trip do not get wet. (On a typical day about 60 visitors get into the water.) They can observe the reef through the underwater observatory on the platform or take a ride in a semi-submersible boat, where you can sit beside a large window in the hull and watch the reef life.
This is an ideal trip for families where each member may have different interests or needs. It is also ideal for those who want to visit the reef, but might not to want to get into the water.
The Boat
Easily the area’s largest dive vessel, the high-powered Quicksilver V transports 300 visitors to the reef at one time. The boat’s unique twin-hulled design makes for a comfortable and stable ride out to the reef, and takes just 90 minutes to get you there. There is a a lot of enclosed air-conditioned space, as well as more than ample open deck area.
