1-night Island Diving and Camping Safari Remote Area Dive |
|
This trip is aboard Coral Gypsy, a 38 foot Mono Hull with a maximum of 10 divers and a Dive Staff of 3. It is for 2 days, 1 night, and allows 5 dives, plus 1 night dive.
Departure Information
Departure is from Your Townsville lodging., Townsville at 5:30 AM Saturdays, return time 5:30 PM.
The Dive
This trip combines two great coastal traditions; great diving and camping on remote islands. That combination makes this trip a unique experience, there’s no other trip like it on the entire reef!
You will spend two days diving Pelorus and Orpheus Island, two islands that lie well off the coast near Townsville.
Pelorus is uninhabited, so camping here has the feel of Robinson Crusoe adventure. The lads at Remote Area Dive supply all the camping gear, and put together a comfortable camp with great food.
The diving plan is pretty open, and you can make up to 5 day dives and one night dive while on this trip. In between the diving there’s you can take a walk on the beach, have a nap in a hammock, and enjoy a relaxed time in camp.
The group size for this trip is kept to under 10 divers, and we like the way this small group size, the camping, and the energy of the RAD staff combine to make a great reef experience.
The Boat
The RadDive II is a boat that's perfectly suited to it's purpose. This 13 Metre (40-foot) boat is outfitted for the diving and camping safaris and dive courses that Remote Area Dive leads in the Pam Island group.
She's nothing fancy, just a fast boat that rides cleanly in the water and makes for easy diving. We like the full-length shade, the ladder that let's sun-seekers bask on the top to catch the rays. The low sides and stern of the boat makes entrances and exits from the water.
This boat also carries a zodiac, which is also used to get to the less easily accessed dive sites.

About Remote Area Dive

Remote Area Diving was founded by two longtime friends and PADI dive instructors back in 2000. Much like DiveTheReef.com, the initial plan was to enjoy life, and maybe get to go diving for free, but after a couple of years, a formula of combining great diving, qualified instruction, small group sizes, and camping on remote tropical islands proved to be a great product, and the company has been busy ever since.
Amongst the friendly experienced dive professionals at RAD there are two registered nurses and a qualified chef; you can be sure that you are in expert hands in all aspects of their service!
