3 Day/2 Night Great Barrier Reef Trip Deep Sea Divers Den |
|
This trip is aboard OceanQuest, a 117 foot Catamaran with a maximum of 41 divers. It is for 3 days, 2 nights, and allows 9 dives, plus 2 night dives.
Departure Information
Departure is from your lodging (free pickup), Cairns at 7:30 AM every day, return time 4:30 PM.
The Dive
If you are a diver you will make 11 dives on this trip, while snorkelers will have heaps of time to spend in the water and relax on the boat.. The dive sites will be selected from the 14 moorings that the company has exclusive use of on Michaelmas, Saxon and Norman Reefs.
Your first two dives and will be off of your transfer boat, the Reefquest II.
Following your dives and lunch you will transfer to the Oceanquest. That afternoon you will make your third dive, have dinner, and do a night dive.
On your second day you will make four dives. For those divers with the proper certification it is usually possible to start the day with a 109 foot wall dive. There will be one more dive before lunch, another before dinner, followed by a night dive in the evening.
Day three will start with a sunrise dive, which is a great time to dive. This is when nocturnal animals finish their cycle of activity, and all the organisms active in the daytime emerge from their hiding places and become active. It is a great opportunity to see some very unusual organisms. (Set your alarm, and don't miss it!)
After the dive and breakfast, there is time for two more dives, and a Buffet Lunch. After that you will again transfer to the Reefquest II for your trip back to Cairns. For true dive enthusiasts, those of you that want to dive, dive, and then dive some more, this could be the trip for you!
For more info about this boat, see the floorplan.
The Boat
The new OceanQuest is an extremely comfortable liveaboard. She’s twin-hulled catarmaran, with three decks, giving everyone lots of space, both in the cabins and in common areas, such as the lounge, dining area, dive deck and sun decks.
The cabins are both spacious and comfortably outfitted. Each cabin has a private bathroom/shower, TV, bar fridges, even an internal phone system!
There are a mix of double, twin, and four-share cabins to suit any person’s needs, and the boat can sleep up to 48 divers and snorkelers in comfort. At 35 metres (117 ft) in length, the boat makes for a very stable and comfortable night’s sleep.

About Deep Sea Divers Den

Deep Sea Divers Den is one of the oldest, largest, and most experienced dive operations in Cairns. Their dive school is one of the two largest such operations in the world, and this year marks the debut of their newly refurbished facilities, and a new dive boat, the ReefQuest II. Besides running the full range of certification courses in four languages, they also operate three dive boats on a daily basis.
The Divers Den has been in operation since 1975, and the size of their operation allows them to do much of their staff training, boat, and equipment maintenance in house. Someone walked into our office recently who was certified and dove with DSDD in 1982, and while you might barely remember what you were doing in '82, Susan has fond and vivid memories of her dive experience.
