Cod Hole/Ribbon Reefs Coral Spawning Dive Expedition
Undersea Explorer

© Undersea Explorer

This trip is aboard Undersea Explorer, an 82 foot Mono Hull with a maximum of 19 divers and a Dive Staff of 4. It is for 7 days, 6 nights, and allows 18 dives, plus 4 night dives.

Departure Information
Departure is from Princes Wharf, Port Douglas at 7:30 PM, return time 4:30 PM.

The Dive

This is an adventure diving expedition with a unique twist. The timing of this trip coincides with the predicted date of Coral Spawning on the Ribbon Reefs. If Mother Nature cooperates and stays on schedule, you will have a chance to witness the synchronized mass spawning of many of the coral species on this amazing section of the Great Barrier Reef. © Wet Image With an onboard lab with a video microscope and other equipment is a part of their Reef Discovery Program, a great learning opportunity available to you as well.

On this 6-day, 6-night trip you will make 20-22 dives, which includes night dives. All of the dives on this trip will be on the Ribbon Reefs.

While night dives will be spent investigating this once a year event, your daytime experience will also be extraordinary. The Ribbon Reefs offer some great diving, a variety of coral pinnacles, reef flats, and other reef formations to explore. They are known for having a great diversity of reef life, including large pelagic fish.

For more info about this boat, see the floorplan.

About Undersea Explorer © Great Barrier Reef Enterprises

Locally owned and operated, the Undersea Explorer has been in business since 1994. They offer some of the most unique dive trips in the area, and have made a strong commitment to both education and research on the Great Barrier Reef. Often booked well in advance, their dive trips are quite popular with both Australian and overseas divers.

We at Divethereef.com can get excited about this operation. As educators and adventurers, we like the opportunities Undersea Explorer creates for its guests to interact with scientists and actively participate in scientific research. In addition, the boat and equipment are maintained and dutifully cared for. Finally, whenever we ask divers who have gone out with the Undersea Explorer, and we’ve spoken to a lot of them, we always hear the same great reviews.
