One-Day Great Barrier Reef Dive Trip Rum Runner Dive and Sail |
|
This trip is aboard Rum Runner IX, a 40 foot Catamaran with a maximum of 44 divers and a Dive Staff of 4. It is for 1 day, and allows 2 dives.
Departure Information
Departure is from Cape Tribulation, North Beach, Cape Tribulation at 8:30 AM every day, return time 4:30 PM.
The Dive
We have always like diving out of Cape Tribulation. The Great Barrier Reef is located closer to shore here than anywhere else, so it’s just an hour to the dive sites located at Undine Reef.
That’s an important number, as it means that you will have 5 hours out on the reef, time to really do some exploring, but at a leisurely pace. The reefs here are in great shape, and are visited by only a few dozen divers and snorkelers each day. The area is well away from any large rivers, so the visibility is always good, usually between 50-80ft (15-25 metres).
There is also a sand cay amongst the dive sites that Rum Runner visits where sea turtles nest, and abundant sea grass beds nearby, so divers and snorkelers often sight sea turtles and on lucky days, dugongs.
The Boat
Rum Runner IX is a motorized sailing catamaran, capable taking up to 44 passengers out out to the Great Barrier Reef in just over an hour.
The boat has both open and enclosed deck areas, enabling reef visitors to enjoy the sun, or stay out of the wind. Two water-level entry platforms make for easy entrances and exits for divers and snorkellers.

About Rum Runner Dive and Sail

Rum Runner is a locally owned and operated company that has been running day dive trips from Cape Tribulation for quite some time, at least ten years. The Owner, Damian Zammet, is actively involved with his boat, and runs a professional operation, with a casual and comfortable Australian style. They maintain a good staff-guest ratio, averaging 1 to 5, so there is plenty of assistance for their guests.
