Half-day Morning Great Barrier Reef Trip Big Cat Reef Cruises |
|
This trip is aboard Reef Rocket, a 110 foot Catamaran with a maximum of 110 divers and a Dive Staff of 4. It is for 1/2 day, and allows 1 dive.
Departure Information
Departure is from Reef Fleet Terminal, Cairns Marina, Cairns at 8:30 AM every day, return time 12:45 PM.
The Dive
If you have less than a day to spend out on the reef (or sleep in late) this trip is the best option available to you. You can spend 2 hours on Green Island, return to Cairns with time to do whatever else you have to do.
There is both a morning (9:00am-12:45) and afternoon (1:15-5:00) trip.
Green Island is a great place for a visit by a group of people with mixed interests, or for those who do not wish to spend the day aboard a boat. Green Island is a vegetated sand cay, with beaches, a café, a small museum and of course the reef that surrounds it. There are also both semi-submersible and glass-bottomed boat tours available. For a family or couple, where someone might not be as interested in spending a lot of time in the water there are lots of options!
A quick 35-minute ride gets you out to the island, and leaves you with 2 hours to spend as you wish. Snorkeling can be done in the protected waters right off the beach. Snorkeling and dive trips take dive tender out to the edge of the reef fringing the island, where the life is more abundant and diverse.
The Boat
The Reef Rocket is aptly named. This medium-sized ferry is fast, and is capable of making the trip out to Green Island in just over 30 minutes. She is also a large (110 ft) and stable boat, with space for up to 100 passengers.. Most of the passenger space is enclosed and air conditioned, and there is a small open air deck at the stern of the boat.
